Ladies From St. Lawrence Church

 Volunteers:

One of our greatest blessings is having over 150 volunteers, from all walks of life, donate their time and talent to St. Peter's Kitchen.

From Church Groups who come once a month, to individuals who come once a week, we always seem to meet the demands of our day with the workforce we have.

Please note we are a hot lunch program which runs Monday - Friday. We do not have weekend or evening volunteer opportunities.

Our volunteer program is as follows:

In general our volunteer work day starts between 9:00-10:00AM and goes to 1:30PM. Our usual day is; preparation from 9:00 - 11:30, our lunch from 11:30 - 12:00, then serving the community from 12:00 - 1:15. Clean-up is from 1:15 - 1:30.

We recommend all volunteers wear clean, conservative, casual clothing.

We also have a large parking lot behind our building for your convenience.

The job's involve:

    making salads
    pouring beverages
    salvaging produce for freezing
    salvaging fruit for fruit cups
    slicing desserts
    general cleaning
    hanging clothes
    serving the community
    greeting the community
    dishwashing
    tray washing
    restocking supply room shelves
    picking up deliveries

Group Volunteers: During the year we also have school groups, business offices, groups of friends, etc. all come and help. We've even had the cast from a Broadway Musical come to volunteer.
Group events need to be scheduled ahead of time. Usually two to three weeks previous to the desired week is helpful.

Holiday Volunteers: We serve on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. We have around 35 volunteers for each of those "Sit and Be Served" Events. Due to the lack of organizations that serve on the actual holiday, we suggest you call at least two months ahead to sign up.

Delivery Volunteers: On Tuesday and Friday mornings we are able to go to stores to pick up produce, dairy products, bread, sweets and miscellaneous items. This position involves taking our van to the store, picking up the deliveries and then unloading the van upon returning.
Hours for this position are 8:30 - 11:00.

Clothing Closet Volunteers: This position involves hanging and sorting clothing during the week. Serving the neighbors on Thursday mornings from 9:30 - 11:00. Hours vary depending on volunteers preference.

As you can see, without our wonderful volunteers and all they do, we would be like a "ship without a paddle". They truly are our tangible angels of service. We are forever grateful for their loyalty and spirit.

If interested in joining us please call (585)235-6511 or email us at stpeterskitchen@dor.org.
