We’ve had a very busy past month and with it has come a flurry of activity. Our website has caught quite a bit of attention. Many of you have responded with requests for volunteer hours which has been wonderful.
Please read the volunteer section of our website before contacting us as there is much general information there to help you decide if St. Peter’s fits your needs and schedule.
The Sister’s of St. Joseph Volunteer Corp had two groups of college students come to Rochester to be a part of Service Projects this past month. We were fortunate enough to get a few students to come and spend two weeks with us.
Our first week was with Megan and Jill from Carroll College in Montana. We had a great time with them and they worked hard along side all of our regular volunteers.
Our second week was with Liz and Sammi from St. Norberts College in Wisconsin. Again our experience with them was equally positive. Their energy and willingness to perform their various duties was commendable. On the final Friday, Caroline and David also joined in to help.
These groups become such a part of our week, saying goodbye on the last day is hard.
It is always helpful for any of us to be given the opportunity to see life from a different perspective, but especially for our talented young adults. All the students expressed enjoyment and inspiration from their experience at St. Peter’s. We wish them only success, peace and God’s Presence throughout their lives.
On March 17, the “Wearing of the Green” in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, took place and we served a wonderful meal of corn beef, cabbage, potatoes and carrots. We couldn’t quite rationalize serving “green beer” so we settled for green popcorn. What a great meal. 204 guests enjoyed the meal that day. The “Neighborhood Network” worked overtime in letting everyone know about our Irish Celebration.
Special thanks to anonymous donors who provided the corn beef. What a treat! We cooked over 60 lbs and not a morsel was left.
Thats all for now. We hope you are all ready for Spring!!!
