St. Peter’s Garden of Love
This past spring, we began a Community Garden, with the help of Foodlink and several community volunteers.
Foodlink provided all of the garden materials and plants.
As Mary said, “it was like having our very own “Planti-claus”.
Our garden was planted in March of 2015 in partnership with Foodlink. In its first year it, we harvested over 100 pounds of food and engaged many from our community in planting, watering and learning about our garden. The garden is located in the grassy, playground area behind the statue of Our Lady and is a very peaceful spot for our community to enjoy an oasis of green and beauty. We planted tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, kale, swiss chard, peppers, summer squash and beans. The garden has been very productive, giving us lots of fresh produce. We held a workshop this past spring about gardening where children and adults attended.
We look forward to putting on more programs as well as expanding the garden.
We look forward to several more years of sowing, growing and reaping!
